[Review] Extreme Road Trip 2
Unfortunately this is in no way related to the rather odd, yet funny, film from a few years back featuring a song about a salmon. No. As you’d expect this is a game. For Android. That is after all why we exist. (The site, not the meaning of life…)
Road Trip 2 brings you side scrolling driving fun to your pocket. But is it just a case of a game with quirky graphics and nothing else? Let’s see.
It’s hard to play this game without comparing it to Hill Climb Racing, as the game play is very similar. On a seemingly endless road you trundle on in a variety of cars, including a certain Chevy Camaro with a yellow paint job, and try to reach as far as you can whilst collecting coins, and much needed petrol for your noble stead. Along the way you can obviously so tricks and go soaring through the sky, whilst preparing yourself for a rather bouncy impact.
The gameplay itself is rather engaging. This is largely thanks to the multitude of cars there are each with their own achievement set to complete. This gives you rewards for all stars you unlock, as every 5 stars gets you some mystery crates. It’s also engaging as there are a whole 2 buttons, minus pause, to use when in the game. These control your angle, but when both held down will send you sliming quicker to the floor. I like simple. It bodes well for insomniac gaming. Yay!
The graphics themselves are rather fetching. With levels from the world of Nyan cat, to a dusty scene. The cars kick up decent dust clouds as you go, and leave satisfying explosions for when you land in the roof after going for just one more flip. The audio blends in well, with catchy music and well made impact sounds, it is actually worth grabbing your headphones for.
However! It was going so well. Until you realise the back button does arse all when you have crashed out. You have to press the change car button and then back will work. Kinda crap. I know this may just be for me, but I have tested across a number of devices…
In sight of that rather annoying ‘feature’, I’d say it is still worth a 4.
